Latter-day Saint: I’m a devout, 7th-generation Latter-day Saint (you might be more familiar with the deprecated term “Mormon”) who is descended from pioneers on every line. I served a mission in Japan, and have served in numerous callings in the Church, including Bishop, Ward Clerk, Ward and Stake Executive Secretary, Stake and Ward Sunday School President, Teacher in Primary, Sunday School, and Priesthood Quorums, Stake PR Director, Stake Family History Director, Emergency Preparedness Specialist, and other callings too numerous to remember.

Please note that when we identify as latter-day saints, we are not claiming to be as holy and righteous as Catholic saints. We’re merely using the term “saint” as it’s used in the Bible to indicate that we are disciples of Jesus Christ who belong to The Church of Jesus Christ. In fact, the name of our Church as revealed by God is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You may be more familiar with the inaccurate and thus deprecated terms of “Mormon” or “Mormon Church,” but please allow us the privilege of self-identifying as Latter-day Saints and not as “Mormons,” since referring to us as “Mormons” inaccurately portrays us as placing far more emphasis on the prophet Mormon and far less emphasis on Jesus than is consistent with reality. It’s like calling someone of the Jewish faith “a Malachi” or an adherent of Islam “an Ishmael.”

I bear witness that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of the Living God, and of His Gospel and Church, and of the prophet Joseph Smith, through whom Jesus restored the fullness of His Gospel and Church in these latter days. I’m always happy to answer questions about the Savior and the marvelous work and a wonder (Isaiah 29: 14) and restoration of all things (Acts 3:20–21) Jesus is performing through prophets and apostles (Ephesians 2:20) prior to His second coming, but I don’t much like contention, so please respect my sincere desire for honest exchange and mutually beneficial dialogue rather than contention and debate over nit-picking disputes based on differing premises or matters of faith.

You are free to choose whatever premises you choose, as am I - so let’s respect one another’s choices as we seek to learn from our differences while finding the common ground that can unite us.
