Can people really speak with God?

Answer 1
I speak to God all the time. It’s called “prayer.”
I think you may have meant “Have you ever spoken with God?”
So here’s how prayer works: You pray TO God the Father THROUGH an intermediary, who is Jesus Christ, who is also God, and the answer often comes THROUGH or FROM the Holy Spirit, who is also God.
So yes, I both speak TO God, and WITH God.
Answer 2
Yes, of course he can.
He has spoken to prophets throughout recorded history.
He speaks, through the Holy Spirit, in a “still, small voice” to countless believers who have faith.
But most often, God speaks to us directly in the language of God - through the Holy Spirit, which we can recognize in ourselves when we see its fruits: hope, love, faith, joy, peace of mind and heart, patience, kindness, gentleness, and self-control.
Will God speak to you directly? That is entirely up to God and your faith in God, but I dare say that God speaks to every one of his children at one time or another through the Holy Spirit. If you close your mind and heart to Him when He talks to you, He will stop talking to you to the degree He tells you one thing and you do another. If you submit your will to God’s, and continue to heed God’s word and learn to understand God’s language, God will talk to you in ever clearer terms and by ever more powerful means.
But don’t confuse faith with “strong belief.” No matter how strong your belief may be in something false, it is still not faith, and will therefore do nothing for you. Faith embodies trust in, love for, and submission to the will of the one true God, even if you haven’t seen him with your eyes or heard him with your ears.
God will speak - in a still small voice - to anyone who asks God, seeks God, and knocks on the door to the kingdom of heaven, in faith.
Don’t believe those who will tell you that God will not speak to you - what they must mean is that God hasn’t spoken to them in a language or terms they recognize as God’s, and they hate the idea that God would speak to anyone else. Or perhaps they think the language of God is English or whatever language they speak. It’s not.
God speaks to you in the language of love for God and love for your fellow man. If you hate God or ignore God (but I repeat myself) and think your fellow brothers and sisters who believe are fools and imbeciles, then you can be sure you can’t and therefore won’t hear God speaking to you. Until you repent of your folly and turn your heart to God, and ask, seek, and knock. Then will God open up to you and your experience in coming to know God will be glorious and good. Pray that you will be able to hear God when he speaks to you through a still small voice in the language of God.
Answer 3
“directly” as in “face-to-face?” No.
It’s probably not accurate to assert that even prophets talk directly to God.
Today, we pray in the name of Jesus Christ and receive answers through the Holy Spirit. So presumably, it’s inaccurate for anyone to say that they speak directly to God or with God.
Just leave out the word “directly” and the language surrounding prayer and speaking with God becomes more accurate.
