Why did God give people so much freedom?

Answer 1
Because you cannot truly love someone and strive to control them at the same time, and God is love.
God is interested in our learning and ability to love God and our brothers and sisters. We learn best when we are free to choose for ourselves and then experience the consequences of our choices. Little learning occurs when we are forced to comply with someone else’s ideas of right and wrong - just ask any child from a deeply authoritarian family.
So the complete freedom of God’s children is one of his most precious gifts, and the fact that we have such freedom, even to choose evil in harming other of God’s children, is in total harmony with the nature of God and his perfect view of what is best for our learning from an eternal perspective.
