Why do you believe in Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world?

Answer 1

Yes, I absolutely believe with the utmost certainty that Jesus Christ is the LORD GOD JEHOVAH, the Savior of the World.

I believe it because God has provided us with a mountain of evidence in the form of inspired witnesses, prophets, and preserved sacred writ. The witness of many prophets are stunning in the degree to which they prophesy of Jesus. Isaiah in particular wrote about Jesus of Nazareth many centuries before Jesus was born, in beautiful and intricate detail.

It’s a divine miracle that we are able to read so many of these prophets and their prophetic testimonies and personal witness of Jesus in the Old Testament, the New Testament, and The Book of Mormon.

There are far too many such prophesies and witnesses to recite here, but suffice it to say that an honest study of those works with a sincere desire to find the Savior of all the World will not result in disappointment except for those who possess the most hardened of hearts.

And as if that weren’t enough to convince me, I have the evidence from my life’s experience. God has heard and answered my prayers too many times to count. I’m not talking about my cynical or selfish prayers - which God rightfully ignores - but the searching, honest prayers of my softened and open heart. Those prayers are answered by a loving God with a rush of the Holy Spirit that my friend, Britt Hagen, somewhat facetiously described as being immeasurably better than any drug he had ever taken. I’ve seen too many miracles to count anymore - not the fire from heaven miracles, but the still small voice miracles, where God tells me something or prompts me to do something I could not have possibly known except through miraculous intervention and inspiration from the Spirit of God.

There’s more, but those two categories of evidence alone are easily enough for me to KNOW, without doubt as surely as I know that I exist, that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and the Savior of the World.

Because we have four extraordinary written accounts, called the Gospels, that tell of his birth, his life, his teachings, his rabbinical ministry, his death, and his return to life, and we have numerous other letters and writings that not only support the record of his extraordinary life, but tell of how He is both an evolutionary fulfillment of Judaic prophecy and law as recorded in what is now the Old Testament, but also describe a revolutionary theology of how we can know that God is not only the God of Justice described in ancient scripture, but also a God of infinite love and mercy as embodied by Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Those Gospels, Epistles, prophecies, and teachings can now be found collected in a book now known as The Bible. There are other supporting writings that some consider Holy Writ that are not included in the Bible but nonetheless support the Jewish idea that a Messiah would come and the Christian idea that a Messiah came in the personage of Jesus of Nazareth as the Son of the Living God.

Jesus Christ had a powerful impact on those who knew him, such that they not only could remember what what they had heard and seen, they told others. Word spread in the days when communications were more often than not verbal and person-to-person.

What is most remarkable about the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John is not that they are so similar (since that could easily be evidence of conspiracy or collusion on the part of those producing the documents), but the fact that they are so relatively dissimilar in ways that historians consider important and revealing when deciding about the historicity of differing accounts.

In other words, The New Testament is so named because it TESTIFIES / WITNESSES / EVIDENCES that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God and our Savior, having conquered death and sin and having left a legacy of a body of moral teachings and truth that has already changed the world, one human life at a time.

Most of those who seriously and sincerely consider the body of historical, religious, philosophical, and scriptural evidence are far more often than not drawn to the singular conclusion that Jesus of Nazareth cannot be ignored as an historical figure, not only a moral exemplar and great teacher, but as the Son of God sent by God the Father to be the Savior of all mankind.
